Preeti to Unicode Converter: Type Nepali Online Instantly
Even though most modern Nepali typing is done on smartphones using Romanized Unicode keyboards (like Google Indic or Hamro Keyboard), the Preeti font remains the backbone of official document processing in Nepal.
From government ward office letters, legal court documents, and land registration papers to daily newspaper print layouts, legacy files rely heavily on the traditional Preeti typing system. If you try to copy and paste Preeti text into Facebook, an email, or a modern website, it turns into unreadable garbage characters (like g]kfn).
We built this lightning-fast Preeti to Unicode Converter to bridge the gap between traditional official documents and the modern digital web.
Why Do You Need a Preeti to Unicode Converter?
If you are a student, journalist, or government official in Nepal, converting legacy text is a daily chore. Here is why this tool is essential:
- Social Media Sharing: You cannot paste Preeti text on Facebook, X (Twitter), or WhatsApp. It must be converted to Unicode Devanagari first.
- SEO and Web Publishing: Google and other search engines cannot read Preeti font. If you publish news in Preeti, your articles will never rank on Google. Converting to Unicode ensures your content is searchable.
- Mobile Compatibility: Preeti fonts break on Android and iPhones because mobile devices do not support legacy TTF font structures. Unicode displays perfectly on every device in the world natively.
How to Convert Unicode back to Preeti (For Printing)
If you have typed a document on your mobile phone in Unicode but need to take it to a local stationary or printing press (where they use older versions of Adobe PageMaker or Microsoft Word), you must convert it back to Preeti.
- Click the “Unicode to Preeti” button at the top of our tool.
- Paste your modern Nepali text into the left box.
- The tool will instantly generate the Preeti keyboard equivalents on the right.
- Click Copy, paste it into Microsoft Word, highlight the text, and change the font drop-down to “Preeti”. It will instantly format perfectly for high-quality printing.
How Does the Preeti Mapping Work?
Preeti is not a true language font—it is a keyboard hack. Developed in the 1990s, the Preeti font simply drew Nepali letter shapes over standard English keyboard keys. For example, when you press the English letter s on your keyboard, the computer still registers an s, but the Preeti font visually covers it up with a drawing of a क.
Unicode, on the other hand, is an international standard where क has its own unique, permanent digital code point. Our converter uses an advanced JavaScript mapping engine to scan your input, identify those hidden English keystrokes, and automatically replace them with their true, universally recognized Devanagari Unicode equivalents.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Preeti is a legacy TTF (TrueType Font) that masks English keystrokes with Nepali visual shapes, meaning it only works if the specific font is installed on the computer. Unicode is a global computing standard where every Nepali letter is assigned a permanent, universal code, allowing the text to display correctly on any device, website, or app without needing extra fonts.
Because Preeti replaces English keys with Nepali visuals, copying the text strips away the visual “mask.” When pasted into a platform that doesn’t use the Preeti font (like Facebook or a browser), the system reverts to showing the underlying English keystrokes you originally pressed (e.g., typing ‘s’ for ‘क’).
Yes. Use the “Unicode to Preeti” toggle in our calculator above. Paste your Unicode text, copy the output, paste it into your editing software (like PageMaker or Word), select the text, and change the font style to “Preeti” to format it for traditional printing.
